TESCO Seeks Visionary Leader as CEO to Drive Transformation in Pakistan’s Power Sector
The Tribal Areas Electricity Supply Company (TESCO), a state-owned power utility operating under Pakistan’s Ministry of Energy (Power Division), has officially opened applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The announcement signals a pivotal push to bring professional corporate leadership to one of the country’s most challenging energy distribution networks.
As the power sector undergoes broad restructuring under the State-Owned Enterprises (Governance & Operations) Act, 2023, TESCO is seeking what it describes as a “visionary leader” capable of navigating complex regulatory environments, driving organizational restructuring, and delivering sustainable growth in the country’s tribal regions.
A Role for Seasoned Executives
The eligibility criteria reflect the high-stakes nature of the position. Candidates must possess at least sixteen years of education in fields such as Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, or Economics, or hold membership in a recognized professional accounting body. Beyond academic credentials, the role demands a minimum of twenty years of post-qualification experience, including at least three years in senior management or C-level positions.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record in corporate transformation, governance, change management, and strategic leadership—particularly within “complex and challenging environments,” a description that aligns closely with TESCO’s operational reality in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
Age, Tenure, and Regulatory Compliance
Applicants must not exceed 62 years of age by the closing date. The selected CEO will be offered a competitive, market-based remuneration package and an initial three-year contract, subject to annual performance reviews by TESCO’s Board of Directors.
Crucially, the appointment must satisfy the Fit & Proper Criteria outlined in the SOEs Act 2023, the SOEs (C-Level Appointments) Guidelines 2024, and the Companies Act 2017. This legal framework is designed to insulate state-owned enterprises from political interference and ensure merit-based, transparent leadership selections.
Application Process and Deadline
Interested professionals must submit a comprehensive application package, including a detailed CV, verified educational degrees (attested by the HEC or relevant bodies), a declaration on non-judicial stamp paper affirming compliance with conflict-of-interest rules, and professional references. Government and semi-government employees are required to apply through the proper channel with a valid No-Objection Certificate (NOC).
The deadline for submissions is June 10, 2026. Applications should be sent via courier to the Company Secretary at TESCO’s headquarters in WAPDA House, Peshawar.
TESCO has reserved the right to cancel or terminate the recruitment process at any stage without providing a reason, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews. No TA/DA will be admissible.
A Critical Leadership Vacancy
Industry observers note that the CEO position at TESCO is one of the more demanding leadership roles in Pakistan’s energy sector. The company serves a region that has faced unique infrastructure and security challenges, and the new CEO will be expected to reduce line losses, improve customer service, and align operations with national grid standards.
With the application window now open, all eyes will be on whether TESCO can attract the kind of top-tier talent needed to transform one of the country’s most strategically important—yet underperforming—power distribution companies.
