Government of Sindh Announces Vacancy for Chief Economist (MP Scale-I)

The Planning & Development Department (P&DD) of the Government of Sindh has officially released an Expression of Interest (EOI) inviting applications from highly qualified professionals for the prestigious post of Chief Economist (MP Scale-I).

As the core department responsible for provincial planning, managing development schemes, and liaising with international donor agencies—including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank—the P&DD is seeking a visionary leader to drive its economic strategies forward. The recruitment process is structured to be strictly merit-based and transparent.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

Prospective candidates must meet stringent academic and professional milestones to be considered for the role:

  • Option A: A Ph.D. in Economics from an HEC-recognized university, supplemented by at least 08 years of professional experience in planning, analysis, and data management for projects/programs.
  • Option B: A Masters Degree in Economics from an HEC-recognized university, coupled with at least 12 years of relevant experience in planning, analysis, and project data management.
  • Note: Prior working experience with major international institutions like the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, or other donor agencies is considered a strong plus point.
  • Age Limit: Applicants must not be above 62 years of age, calculated as of the closing date for application submission.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

The selected Chief Economist will take on a multifaceted leadership role within the provincial government. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Policy Formulation: Analyzing and providing critical recommendations on major economic policies and provincial programs.
  • Development Catalyst: Coordinating all development activities across Sindh and acting as a primary catalyst for progress.
  • International Liaison: Assisting administrative departments in securing foreign aid and development assistance, alongside managing economic evaluations for aid-giving entities.
  • High-Level Representation: Representing the Chairman of the P&D Board at high-profile CDWP and ECNEC meetings in Islamabad.
  • Departmental Supervision: Directly overseeing crucial internal wings, including:
    1. Foreign Aid
    2. Appraisal
    3. Bureau of Statistics

Compensation and Contract Details

  • Salary Package: The successful candidate will receive a competitive remuneration package under the Management Position (MP Scale-I) framework, in accordance with the Sindh Management Position Scales Policy, 2022.
  • Tenure: The initial appointment period is set for two (02) years. Extensions are possible, contingent upon satisfactory performance evaluations, departmental recommendations, and final approval by the Chief Minister of Sindh.
