Punjab University Announces Faculty Recruitment in Punjabi Studies Under New Pension Scheme

The University of the Punjab has officially published Advertisement No. 1/2026, inviting applications from qualified Pakistani nationals for two faculty positions within the Institute of Punjabi & Cultural Studies. The recruitment drive, announced for the basic scale (BS) pay package, seeks candidates for the roles of Associate Professor and Assistant Professor in the subject of Punjabi.

Key Positions and Pay Scales

According to the advertisement, the university is looking to fill the following posts:

· Associate Professor (Pay Package BS-20): 01 post in Punjabi.
· Assistant Professor (Package BS-19): 01 post in Punjabi.

Eligibility criteria will follow the standards set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), which are available on both the HEC and Punjab University websites.

Major Change: New Pension Scheme for Fresh Recruits

In a significant policy shift, the advertisement emphasizes that all fresh recruitments will now be governed under the Punjab Defined Contribution Pension Scheme Rules 2025. This decision, approved by the university’s Syndicate and Senate, marks a departure from the old BPS pension rules.

However, the notice clarifies that individuals already working on BPS scales (either within or outside the university) who apply through the proper channel will remain under the old pension system. The detailed document of the new pension scheme is available on the university’s website.
